Greenlots Pasadena Project
In May, Greenlots activated the largest public EV fast-charging plaza in North America, in partnership with the City of Pasadena. With a total of 44 chargers, the Marengo Charging Plaza in Pasadena, CA is helping advance the adoption of electric vehicles by making chargers more publicly available at central locations throughout the city to support drivers’ daily commutes and extend their electric range to reach further destinations.
This ground-breaking effort led by the City of Pasadena provides a blueprint for other cities’ public EV charging projects .” said Jeff Tolnar, Chief Commercial Officer at Greenlots. “We are proud to be involved in every step of this project from survey to construction and through activation. The Marengo Charging Plaza project demonstrates the next generation of EV solutions – making public charging more accessible for drivers at an unprecedented scale”
Of the 44 chargers in the new plaza, 20 are DC fast chargers. This makes it possible for EV drivers to add up to 100 miles to their trip range in less than 30 minutes, eliminating range anxiety and changing the way drivers think about charging their EVs. The plaza’s infrastructure is activated and managed by Greenlots cloud-based technology platform – SKY.
The SKY technology platform allows the City of Pasadena real-time network management to view performance and utilization of charging stations, variable price management to set charging fees based on usage, time or session and advanced data analytics to assess performance.
Drivers can access chargers via the user-friendly Greenlots mobile app to locate the nearest available charger, check on charge status, and make payments directly from their smartphone.
Within its first month of operation the Plaza averaged more than 7,000 charging sessions.
