Greenlots Enables Shell Recharge Battery Power Storage System
Greenlots now manages a battery-powered system designed to power grid constrained locations, allowing electric vehicle owners to fast charge at a reduced cost. This system is live at the Shell Recharge Zaltbommel forecourt in the Netherlands.
This is the first Shell battery installation in the Netherlands and the second battery backed fast charging for Shell globally. The latest one in the Netherlands, the other is in California under the California Energy Commission sponsored project.
The Greenlots FlexCharge Manager is the key enabler; it provides optimized and safe energy distribution to all parts of the station without overloading the grid connection.
This system is operated with Greenlots and NewMotion software and will act as a blueprint for future grid restrained locations – providing charging to all corners of the world.
The system is designed to reduce costs and improve drivers’ experience by powering ultra-fast chargers with electricity stored in an onsite battery. Drivers will be able to simultaneously charge at two 175kW charge points, while the on-site battery helps to top up electricity supply from the grid. Using the stored energy helps maximize the use of renewable electricity and also eliminates the need for expensive grid upgrades to support multiple charge points.
